tues night update

Tom did pretty well off his sedation for most of the morning but became very agitated in the afternoon. He definitely knew when family was here today. They did have to put him on a little sedation in the later afternoon but they are hoping they can keep it minimal and wean him back of it tomorrow. They are hoping to just take the edge off overnight. Keep you fingers crossed. They are still working out a few kinks with his electrolytes and fluid balance but most of his labs continue to improve. Infectious disease decided that his rash is a drug reaction to one of his antibiotics so they stopped it today. Inevitably he now has thrush in his mouth so they are swabbing him with Nystatin. We are watching American Idol right now...I think he would be calmer if they weren't singing Elvis songs tonite. Hope to have even better news tomorrow.
Good night all.

  1. Great news, Cheryl. Thank you for all of the updates. I anxiously await each one and am so happy to hear that things seem to be moving in the right direction. Please give Tom my best.

  2. It's times like these when you realize how amazing our bodies are...when they are functioning correctly. I'm saying lots of prayers that Tom's body gets back to normal soon...although I know there is a huge uphill battle ahead of him after all that he's been through.

Keep doing what you're doing, even if it is singing. : )
    Love you.

  3. Antibiotics are great except when they kill all the good bacteria too. I've been through all kinds of drug reactions myself and hoped that Tom would be spared of them, with everything else he has going on.

Cheryl, your blogs are what get us through each day here. All of us on campus who know and love Tom anxiously await the updates and celebrate each victory no matter how small. We are counting the days until he can come back for a visit and eventually return to work. Thanks so much for taking the time to keep us updated and helping us through our days too.

Tomorrow is Duck Day and I know the girls usually come to see the ducks and welcome them back. If you want to come or want me to take them so you can stay with Tom. Just let me know. My number is on Tom's cell. or just call the office Ted can give you my cell.

  4. Hey,
Glad to read all of your posts. Please call me anytime, for any reason. I'll talk to you soon. Are you sure you should sing?? :) Possible I will see you this weekend, but...Mark just woke up with a bit of a cold and if it's not completely, 100% gone, he will not be coming to St. V's.
